Peer Evaluation Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Peer Evaluation - Assignment Example In Las Vegas, Nevada, mental illness has turned out to be a bid issue (Wray et al., 2008). There is increased risk of suicides in children aged 10-17 years. Hence, a health promotion health proposal aimed at reducing the suicide risk in the children from 16 per year to 10 per year before January 2016 can be proposed. 2. Describe the vulnerable population and setting. Studies conducted indicate that depressed individuals suffer some risk of committing or wanting to commit suicide (NIMH, 2010). Another study conducted on individuals that visit Las Vegas indicates visitors may commit suicide in the event of financial stress. In Las Vegas, adolescents and children number stressed has increased over the past years. It is estimated that a total of 16 adolescents and children committed suicide in 2011 (CDC, 2012). These generally resulted from family arguments, bad relationships, sexual orientation problems, rape, school problems, law problems, and drug abuse (NIMH, 2010). 3. Evidence-based interventions Available literature associated with prevention and treatment of mental health offer promising solutions on combating the illness plus curbing suicide rates. In an article from a mental health journal, one article proposed the use of PCPs (Primary Care Providers) in early identification of individuals at risk. Usually, it is estimated that 70 % of individuals with health insurance visit their PCPââ¬â¢s at least yearly, hence this might serve as good screening grounds for individuals at risk and those with mental illness. This method is only advantageous for insured individuals, but for uninsured people who lack access to health care providers, screening might be a problem (CDC, 2012). Another health promotion program that has shown success in the past is mental education (CDC, 2012). In this case, the community is educated regarding mental illness and provided with some of the major signs and symptoms to keep watch. It is important that sign/symptoms of depression be taught as it is a common phenomenon is suicide victims. These health educations should be aimed towards the rightful target population. In as much there are many mental health facilities, usually a small percentage of people benefit from it (HealthyPeople.gov, 2012). Mental health education can be limited with the issue of little resources and personnel to conduct the rigorous exercise. The target audience in such case should more entail students, parents and teachers. Education hence should try to focus on providing warning signs to the target population and people around them (HealthyPeople.gov, 2012). Based on the assessment of an identified need in the community, the goal of reducing the suicide rate from 16 to 10 by the year 2016 is realistic and attainable. Utilization of a readily available PCP resource makes the process of screening and treating insured individuals facing mental health concerns simple (NIMH, 2010). By offering education on mental health resources as early as elementary school, students, parents, and teachers are equipped with information as well as warning signs that can be used to potentially save lives (CDC, 2012). 4. Select an appropriate health promotion/disease Mental illness and suicide Theoretical Framework: Figure 1 5. Propose a health promotion program using evidence- In an attempt to reduce the suicide levels to 10 from 16 a year
Basic Macro and Microeconomic Policies Assignment
Basic Macro and Microeconomic Policies - Assignment Example Cost extravagances in the airline industry had brought financial costs up decreasing profits but did not automatically mean an increase in sales. Accounting problems and financial data were overlooked or neglected during the dot-com bust. First, too much money was spent on advertising which focused on selling and not marketing. Second, too much advertising money could have been saved if ads were focused on market segments. Cost extravagances in the airline industry had brought financial costs up decreasing profits but did not automatically mean an increase in sales. First, too much money was spent on advertising which focused on selling and not marketing in both online and offline advertising(Churchill,1995). The prior selling attitude of companies as the strove to increase net profits had been to prioritize the sellerââ¬â¢s aim to generate profits. The sad thing about this is that the customersââ¬â¢ needs and wants were put to second place or just simply not taken up. Thus, mo ney was spent paying computer programmers large sums of money to make websites that would catch the eyes of prospective computer users. To prove that this type of strategy to increase sales was effective, the companies targeted all computers users whether they were inside the United States or in the United Kingdom or elsewhere. Unfortunately, there is no logic that increased advertising on the internet will automatically translate to increased sales.

MANAGEMENT IN THE 21ST CENTURY Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
MANAGEMENT IN THE 21ST CENTURY - Essay Example the organizations to achieve this goal there is need for the managers to break down bureaucratic structures to allow close interaction between workers and managers at various levels, recognize the potential of employees, capitalize organizational teams and organization of projects. Management can be viewed as a form of idea and a structure of values based on the perception that it can secure a limitless growth of expansion in the creation and exchange of human significance across the globe (Smith) Customers want their orders processed as fast as possible and with greater efficiency. This requires organizations to be fully prepared to respond to emergency requests of the customers while maintain continuous improvement of products and services they deliver to the customers. It is apparent that organizations must make a profit in order to survive in the market. The efficiency of management is achieved at four levels namely; natural, social, individual and ethical level (Alain, 2006). The management should have a limitless predisposition towards a systematic in addition to the occasional regulation of nature and boundless accumulation and capitalisation of knowledge for governing nature. Managers require skills to address issues at all levels from individual, social, organizational and global levels by establishing a clear link of how various things interact at all levels across the globe. The new management style involves focusing on short-term financial performance. Just as aforementioned, organizations must make a profit on a daily basis in order for them to survive. Investors use returns of their investments as a yardstick to measure the efficiency of management (Alain, 2006). This puts managers under intense pressure to put in place concrete measures to achieve short-term finance performance. There is an increasing urgency in production and consumption of products and services mainly as a result of increasing use of information technology. These aspects have

The Media Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
The Media - Essay Example Those who have made the change are aware of this bias and do not want to be influenced by it, especially if they are not of the same opinion. It appears to be an undeniable fact that the media has the power to influence peopleââ¬â¢s opinions, which can severely impact social and political climates; therefore, it is extremely important that the average person develop the ability to judge the quality of their news sources. First and foremost, it is vital that people understand precisely how the media impacts their opinions. According to the article entitled ââ¬Å"How the Media Portray Issues,â⬠author Scott London tells his audience that they must pay greater attention to how their news is framed. ââ¬Å"A frame is the central organizing idea for making sense of relevant events and suggesting what is at issueâ⬠¦To identify frames, the informational content of news reports is less important than the interpretive commentary that attends itâ⬠(London). In essence, London is saying that the news itself does not matter, but it is how the news is presented to the audience that is very important to be aware of as it is the mediaââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"interpretationâ⬠of the news which can influence the publicââ¬â¢s opinions. Since a lot of the traditional media sources are interpreted from a liberal perspective, that means that the media might not report certain aspects of a piece of news if it does not fall in line with or hurts their own opinion/interpretation of it. This type of thinking shows a lack of objectivity. According to London, ââ¬Å"Objectivity has been the ruling principle in American journalism for the better part of the 20th centuryâ⬠(London). However, London believes that objectivity does not really exist in todayââ¬â¢s world: ââ¬Å"objectivity became a standard in journalism "precisely when the impossibility of overcoming subjectivity in presenting the news was

Destination Marketing Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Destination Marketing - Coursework Example Tourism destination has been defined as ââ¬Å"a geographical region, political jurisdiction, or major attraction, which seeks to provide visitors with a range of satisfying to memorable visitation experiencesâ⬠(Bornhost, Ricthie and Sheehan, 2010). A tourism destination must also seek to enhance the economic and social well-being of the residents within its boundaries. To be called a tourism destination it must also offer a wide range of activities and experience to the tourists. Kenya can be called a tourism destination as it is an attractive, and one of the most developed tourist destinations in Sub-Saharan Africa (Ayoo, 2007). As of 2007 Kenya had 29 National Parks and 29 National Reserves that together occupy about 7.5% of the countryââ¬â¢s total area. Biodiversity ranging from marine parks, mountain, arid and semi-arid parks to ecosystems can be found at these parks. The Equator divides the country into almost two equal halves. The country has several attractions such as natural and cultural attractions such as game viewing, bird-watching, deep-sea fishing and mountain climbing, apart from being free of terrorism (Pennington-Gray et al., 2005). The diversity of physical landscape and scenery provide both beauty and variety to the country (Odunga, 2005). Wildlife and nature-based tourism is the greatest attraction for the tourists visiting Kenya. Tourism in Kenya grew over the years and became an important economic activity. However, the sector has been experiencing decline because it could not segregate mass tourism from eco tourism and sustainable tourism. The focus initially was on mass tourism but then the focus shifted towards attracting a niche segment or the upmarket segment (Odunga, 2005). This affected the image of Kenya as a tourist attraction. With another policy shift the focus was again on both mass tourism and the niche segment. The constant shifting of strategies has led to an adverse image of the destination. Tourism in Kenya is in the decline stage of the Tourism Area Life Cycle as product quality has declined. Effective promotion is needed to restore the image that Kenya as a destination carried. Situational analysis would help recommend a suitable promotional strategy to attract the UK tourists, comprising of a niche segment. 2. Situational Analysis An analysis of the macro environment or the external factors that influence tourism in Kenya would help develop the framework for promotion as well as the marketing objectives. 2.1 Environmental Analysis The country is undergoing political instability and political unrest. One of the major issues is the unequal distribution of resources such as land on which tourism depends. Some hold the view that while tourism consumes large resources the distribution of the revenue remains at the discretion of the central government, which often disregards the social and economic needs of the region (Mayaka and Prasad, 2012). The political situation in the country makes the tourism industry vulnerable to uncertainties and volatility. The tourism sector in Kenya contributes to 11 percent of the GDP but the global financial crisis further affected the political events, which resulted in reduced flow of tourists (Mayaka and Prasad, 2012). Tourism has reduced unemployment while maintaining balance of payments (Pennington-Gray et al., 2005). The recession

Process design for Riordan Manufacturing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Process design for Riordan Manufacturing - Essay Example A new process design for the production of Riordan electric fans will need designs associated with material requirements planning (MRP), supply chain processes, production forecasts, and implementation plans. The MRP helps in specifying when production and purchase orders must be placed for each part and subassembly to complete the product on schedule Effective planning and controls associated with the supply chain process and demand can help in inventory management. Demand variations are the norm in the business environment; therefore, supply chain processes, forecasts, and implementation plans have to include the flexibility necessary to cope with demand variations. Material Requirements Planning The reason companies use an MRP system is to ââ¬Å"approach problems, determine the number of parts, components, and materials needed to produce each end item. MRP also provides the schedule specifying when each of these materials, parts, and components should be ordered or producedâ⬠(Chase, Jacobs, & Aquilano, 2006, p. 630). Riordanââ¬â¢s facilities for parts and facilities for production are in different locations. In order to keep up with everything that Riordan is doing and desires to do they must implement an MRP system that will allow them to manage inventory and production schedules. It will also allow them to keep up with production output and will make sure they are utilizing and operating at maximum capacity without overloading the production process by monitoring all aspects and all locations involved in production. An MRP system will further improve Riordanââ¬â¢s level of customer service and track billing, inventory and all other areas of production and delivery in one system in which all locations are on the same page. The system will allow triggers for ordering, slowing and speeding up production, parts, etc maintaining a consistent level of operation and low inventory based on need. New Process Design Changes in three areas of process desi gn can have a tremendous impact on Riordanââ¬â¢s China plants efficiency and in turn allow Riordan to achieve higher profits through higher on-time delivery of their products. Electric Motor delivery issues In the current process Riordan has outsourced its electric motors for their fans. The company they use is a local Chinese company that only has a 93% on-time delivery average. Riordan may realize greater on-time delivery if this process was not outsourced but moved in-house. This would ensure a higher on-time delivery of a much needed part for the fans they produce. Orders and shipping/delivery The current forecasting method for fan production is based on the last three year sales average sales. The shipping method for local orders is that they can be picked up at the plant, which is good because there is no show room or warehouse cost associated with storing the unsold fans. Fans to be delivered within China, Riordan use a local company, much like UPS or FedEx. For internatio nal deliveries Riordan uses FedEx. 31.6% of the population in China has Internet access (Internet World Stats,à 2010). The use of the Internet as an ordering tool to allow potential customers, both individuals and businesses, to place orders would both stream line the ordering process as well as allow Riordan to forecast better the number of fans to produce. Special Order Fans Riordan also produces a certain number of fans for special orders that would be produced with special specifications. Riordan designs the new fan according to customerââ¬â¢s specification. Once the fan is approved, a small number of the fans are created under a separate contract. There are no forecast numbers for special orders. Riordan would benefit here from a website aimed at past business customers to allow them order or reorder past products. Supply Chain Process Strategic

Education Inquiry Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Education Inquiry - Essay Example Blalock states that he wrote the book to confront the perennial problems that all social scientists face and it was his desire to ask two questions. Those two questions are, "Why aren't we doing better, and how can we improve" (Blalock, 1984, p 6). In order to answer those two questions, we as social scientists/researchers must understand the background and environment in which we must toil. There are a number of "very tough intellectual challenges stemming from the complexity of the social world we are attempting to study" (Blalock, 1984, p 6). Blalock points out that we need to understand those intellectual challenges and the interplay of our individual intellectual backgrounds, interests and behaviors with those challenges. The answers to these questions are what we consider as we continue the process of research. James M. Black said that "One of the most important features of the training of research scholars is the acquisition of skills required to conduct sound scientific investigations" (Black, 1976, pg 6). We understand that there are a number of pitfalls and bias that w... ntly will encounter as individuals in attempting research projects and that we will need to understand what and who we are in order to be proficient in our jobs and careers.. If we first work at gaining the skills that we need to answer those questions then our projects will be more readily presentable and understood by those we are attempting to influence. One of the understandings that we must address is the characteristics of scientific research. Black says that "sociology has the following characteristics of science; 1. sociology is empirical, 2. sociology is theoretical, 3. sociology is cumulative, 4. sociology is non-ethical" (Black, 1976, p 5). The book goes on to explain that empirical means that it is based on observation and reasoning, theoretical is the attempt to summarize complex observations in abstract, logically related propositions, cumulative shows how sociological theories build upon one another and that by being non-ethical means that sociologists do not ask whether particular social actions are good or bad, they merely seek to explain them. Social Research/ pg 3 The non-ethical statement could be the most important one of the four. As social scientists, a problem that we will almost always (in ourselves) is the urge to judge social actions, and present them as good or bad. That is not our job when conducting a research project. Our job should be conducted along the lines of maintaining the research process with stringent guidelines. As social scientists we must adhere to those guidelines in order for our presentation(s) of the material to be taken seriously. If we advocate the use of the material in certain ways, whatever ways those are, then we are no longer social scientists but could be considered as social advocates.
